Seeing the connection between the fragility of the earth and our favorite food item – an egg – Eggology is supporting Earth Day 2009 and wants to get consumers involved, too! In the months leading up to Earth Day, Eggology will donate a percentage of online sales to the Earth Day Network. In addition, we are inviting you to show your commitment to planet Earth by sharing your eco-friendly deeds with us. Simply email photographs or videos showcasing your eco-actions, and we’ll feature submissions below and on our blog – plus, you’ll receive tips on how to make even more of a difference in 2009! Wild Web Women from Santa Barbara, Ca
The "wild web women" at Web Marketing Therapy make eco-friendly committments on an annual basis by donating 1% of our annual gross sales to environmental non-profits. In 2008, we donated our 1% to the Breast Cancer Fund, an eco-friendly organization that is a dedicated advocate for the elimination of environmntal and other preventable causes of Breast Cancer. Also, we do not commute to work and we commit to recycling as much as we can. Thanks Eggology for providing this outlet to share our committment to our fragile earth!

I've decided to rethink my thirst. After reading that students at my local university consume about 8,000 water bottles per day, I've stopped using plastic water bottles and now take a klean kanteen with me to the gym! I know the environmental implications of all those bottles are immense - especially in terms of the greenhouse gas emissions they produce!

We are trying to teach our 18 month old son how to be kind to mother earth! We demonstrate our commitment by biking instead of driving whenever possible and once we arrive at a location (typically a park!) we teach him to pick up litter and either put it in the trash or if appropriate put it in the recycle bin. We are avid recyclers at home as well and do our part to keep down the waste by using cloth bags for our groceries. We hope that he will love nature as much as we do and want to teach him to respect it by not trashing it-literally and figuratively.

We have pledged "green our scene" by cutting down on our energy use in our home by: 1. Unplugging things when they are not being used (like our coffeemaker and microwave oven!) 2. Not leaving lights on in a room when we are not using it. 3. Turn the TV OFF more often. 4. Replacing our bulbs with the energy efficient bulbs.

Here's a video that describes how we plan to replant 250 million acres of rainforest in the next 11 years. This Earth Day is the pilot for a 10 year program that will run from 2010 (the 40th anniversary) and 2020(the 50th anniversary) of Earth Day.

We keep re-useable shopping bags in our car and use them not only for groceries but for days out at the pool, beach or zoo to carry our snacks, sunscreen, etc. In addition, we are teaching by example to our 5 year old the importance of recycling or re-using items. We have an accessible recycle bin in our house, help him pick out his old toys to give to others, buy recycled products, send his water to school everyday in a re-usable thermos bottle and enforce all of this through a book called "Michael Recycle" by Ellie Bethel that shares the story of a young superhero who is the planet's savior!

Eggology - thanks for the eco-deed post. It means a lot to me to support organizations that have an eco-friendly committment. I rinse out all my Eggology egg white containers and recycle them and I support companies that are 1% for the Planet members and I try to be an eco-shopper, supporting companies like yours that are committed to the planet. I even put a "it's not cool to NOT recycle" poster in my condo dumpster area (that is still there and works!) after I sorted through my neighbor's trash (gross, yes, but earth happy) and found tons of plastics that he just threw away! reduce, reuse, recycle! Thanks Eggology!

Dowitcher Designs from Santa Barbara, Ca
Dowitcher Designs uses 100 % recycled paper (manufactured using wind and solar energy) for all marketing materials, and we encourage clients to use recycled paper for all printed projects, from books to business cards, totaling thousands of sheets every year. We also work with clients to move previously printed materials to digital editions, and we work with hosting companies like Dreamhost who provide green hosting solutions. The owners are active Sierra Club members who often find themselves reaching into dumpsters to collect recyclable items destined for new lives!

I use water from the tap and then filter it rather than purchase Spring water because the purchasing of spring water encourages companies to build up around more and more undiscovered springs and this may affect the eco system in that area.

My husband and I bought a new house a couple of years ago, with the intention of making improvements. All of the improvements made since that period have been eco-friendly. The yard has been coverted to an organic garden with composting and rain barrels. The house is on a waiting list for solar panels. The appliances have been replaced with energy efficient models. The possessions we decided to get rid of were donated or given away on freecycle. We continue to make plans on additional eco-friendly renovations! I have also begun bringing recycling home from work (there is no recycling there), as well as implementing green policies within my office.
